Pair Face Counterfeit Money Charges

Greenwich Police say they seized more than 30 counterfeit $20 bills from a couple who they arrested early Thursday at the Walgreen's pharmacy in Riverside.

According to a police report, store employees called police about 1:30 a.m. Feb. 14 to report a man was trying to use fake $20 bills to buy gift cards. The man fled from the store to a waiting 2002 GMC Envoy. Employees were able to give police a description of the vehicle and its license plate.

Police stopped the pair a short time later and the man and woman "gave several conflicting accounts" of their involvement with the purchases, according to the report.

Police arrested Rahmel H. Jackson, 33, of 236 Linden St., Brooklyn, NY, with first-degree forgery, sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny and interfering with an officer. Police said Jackson had 31 counterfeit $20 bills in his possession and numerous gift cards.

The driver, identified as Nyeasha Townsend, 33, of 4 River Pl., Stamford, was charged with first-degree forgery, conspiracy to commit first-degree forgery, sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny, interfering with an office, operating without insurance and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. According to the report, the registration for nthe Envoy expired in February 2012.

Both were unable to post $10,000 bond each and scheduled to appear Feb. 22, in state Superior Court in Stamford.
