Police Investigate Downtown Greenwich Burglary

Burglars apparently set off an alarm which prevented them from looting a home in central Greenwich early Thursday.

According to Greenwich Police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray, police responded to a burglar alarm at an East Elm Street residence around 3:30 a.m. Dec. 19. Officers found there had been several attempts made to enter the home, whose resident was away at the time.

Further investigation showed that someone broke a ground level basement window and entered the basement, Gray said. But the alarm apparently scared off the intruders who didn't take anything, Gray said.

The resident who responded to the scene after being contacted by police, reported nothing was missing, Gray said.
