Police Issue Speeding Ticket to Driver Involved in Dog Salon Crash

The driver whose Camaro slammed into the front of a dog grooming salon Wednesday afternoon has been ticketed for speeding.

According to Greenwich Police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray, Alexander A. Licari, 23, of 171 Weaver St., Greenwich, was ticketed for traveling unreasonably fast and failure to drive in proper lane following the 2:45 p.m. Oct. 30 crash which took out the front of 60 Pemberwick Rd.

None of the four employees of Barks & Bubbles Grooming Salon nor the six canines inside were injured by debris that went flying when the Chevy Camaro Licari was driving slammed into the corner of the brick building and front window. One of the tenants who lives in the four apartments in the building said she narrowly escaped being hit by the out-of-control Camaro.

Meanwhile, Thursday afternoon, Eric Andersen was waiting for a contractor to arrive to begin to make repairs to his building that was deemed unsafe and dangerous by Greenwich building inspectors.

"Once the building is considered structurally sound, we'll move everyone back in," Andersen said. "The town gave us a punch list of what needs to be done."

Andersen said he expects residents should be able to return to their apartments over the weekend. Until then, the Greenwich Chapter of the Red Cross has made emergency housing accommodations. And for Barks & Bubbles, owned by Patricia Gabriele, "I'm hoping to them back by Tuesday," Andersen said.

"I'm very grateful no one got hurt and feel bad for the kid who did it," Andersen said as he sat in his pickup waiting for the contractor to arrive.

"The town, the police, the fire department, the ambulance, the Red Cross — everyone was great. You couldn't have a better group of people in town," Andersen said. "You don't appreciate their services until you need them. We are very lucky to have them in town."

Gray said police have not estimated how fast Licari was driving. "He obviously was going fast —he caused some significant damage to the building," Gray said. Licari was given a Nov. 8 court date to answer the motor vehicle tickets.
