Reorganization Within the Greenwich Police Department

The recent promotions has led to a series of reassignments within the department.

The recent series of promotions within the Greenwich Police Department has prompted number changes in the organizational structure of the department.

"With the recent promotions, the chief (James Heavey) has taken the opportunity to reorganize the department, particularly at the top," Lt. Kraig Gray, the department's public information officer.

Newly-promoted Capt. Robert Berry is now commander of the patrol division "with his extensive expertise in operations," Gray said.  Capt. Mark Kordick has been assigned as commander of the detective division, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of Capt. Timothy Berry.

With his promotion to lieutenant, David Nemecek has been transferred from the marine division to patrol where he will serve as a shift commander. Replacing Nemecek in the marine division is Sgt. Mike O'Connor. "He is a seasoned police officer and boater; a long-term Greenwich resident who knows the Greenwich waters," Gray said.

Lt. James Bonney has been transferred from the patrol division to the detective division, replacing Gray, who has been transferred to professional standards division. The professional standards division handles training, the community impact officers, and employee-related issues, Gray said.

Sgt. Brent Reeves is now assigned to the detective division, working as a domestic violence coordinator with the state court system, Gray said. Sgt. John Thorme is now the section sergeant for the community impact officers, replacing Sgt. Michael Reynolds who has retired. Newly-promoted Sgt. William Larkin is now assigned as a desk sergeant.

"It's all about making the right fit for the organization," Gray explained. "When a top administrator leaves, there is a lot of pull (upward) and it's an opportunity to balance the department organizationally and personality wise."
