Suspect in Greenwich Church Collection Theft Busted

Bridgeport man charged in theft of Sunday collection money from St. Catherine of Siena Church.

A Bridgeport man was arrested today on a sixth-degree larceny charge in connection with last month's theft of Sunday collection money from St. Catherine of Siena Church, according to Greenwich Police.

Angelo T. Younger, 47, was arrested at his 45 Mead St. home in Bridgeport by Greenwich detectives on June 5. Younger is accused of stealing collection money after the 9 a.m. Mass at the Riverside Avenue church on May 20.

At the time, police said Parishioners noticed a bag containing the collection money was missing from a safe in the church after the suspect approached some of them and told them he needed money.

Det. Sgt. Kristopher Shockley said between $400 and $500 was stolen and none of the money was recovered. He said Younger was identified by parishioners who viewed photo lineups from police.

"He was not a parishioner of the church," Shockley added.
