Suspect in Greenwich ID Theft Case Faces New Charge

Greenwich Police have arrested the suspect in an identity theft and credit card fraud case again — this time for not appearing in court to answer the litany of original charges.

According to a Greenwich Police report, Barry Boubacar, 37, of West Hempstead, NY, was picked up by officers at the Department of Homeland Security in Latham, NY on Dec. 17. Greenwich Police had obtained an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainer that allowed Boubacar's transfer from Homeland Security to Greenwich.

Greenwich Police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray would not comment on why Boubacar was in custody of Homeland Security or why they obtained the detainer.

Boubacar, who also is known as Mor Thiam, was charged with first-degree failure to appear in court.

The suspect originally was arrested  on Feb. 13, 2013 by Greenwich Police who obtained a warrant charging him with second-degree identity theft, second-degree conspiracy to commit ID theft, trafficking in personal identifying information, four counts each of third-degree ID theft and conspiracy to commit third-degree ID theft, second-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny, receipt of good from use of a credit card, five counts of conspiracy to make a false statement or procure a credit card and three counts of conspiracy for illegal use of a credit card.

The original charges stem from an incident reported on Nov. 1, 2008, according to a police report. Gray would not comment on the original case.

Bond the failure to appear charge was set at $5,000 and Boubacar was given a Dec. 24 appearance date in state Superior Court in Stamford.
