Tree Worker Remains in 'Critical Condition,' Hospital Says [Update]

Hector Guerra, 28, the Port Chester, NY tree worker injured in Greenwich, remains in critical condition at Stamford Hospital, according to spokesman Scott Orstad.

Guerra had become entangled in a machine at about 3:30 p.m. Friday, police said.

The company that Guerra was working for, Shady Tree Inc. of Greenwich, could not immediately be reached for comment.

Greenwich police have identified the tree worker seriously injured in a North Street stump grinding accident as Hector Guerra, 28, of Touren Avenue, Port Chester, NY.

He was working at the time for Shady Tree Inc. of Anderson Road, Greenwich, according to Lt. Kraig Gray, public information officer for Greenwich police.

"The circumstance regarding the accident continues to be investigated by the US Department of Labor OSHA," Gray said in a press release.

Guerra was taken to the emergency department at Stamford Hospital. An update on his condition was not immediately available.

A Port Chester man working with a large tree stump grinder was seriously injured Friday afternoon when he became entangled in the machine, according to Greenwich Police.

At about 3:30 p.m., the Greenwich E-911 dispatch center received a call of a serious accident involving a worker who was removing tree stumps. The Greenwich Police  Greenwich Fire departments and Greenwich Emergency Service medics were sent to the scene, according to a Greenwich Police statement.

The unidentified worker is employed by a local tree trimming service that had been working at the 537 North St. property most of the day. At about 3:25 p.m., the worker became entangled within the grinding wheel of a large mechanical stump grinder.  The worker sustained significant injuries to both his arms and one leg. The  victim was removed from the machine by a fellow worker.

Upon arrival all of the emergency personnel on scene provided medical care for the patient, police said in the report. The victim was taken to the Stamford Hospital.

At about 5:30 the scene was turned over to a Connecticut State OSHA investigator.

The patient's identity is being withheld pending notification of his family. No further details will be released at this time, police said.
