A New Parking Czar for Greenwich

The Greenwich Board of Selectmen unanimously appointed Rita Azrelyant, the assistant to the village manager of Scarsdale, NY, as the new parking director for the Town of Greenwich.

Azrelyant was selected after a search committee conducted two searches to hire a successor to Allen Corry, who resigned earlier this year to accept a post in Texas.

"For the last several months we've sought fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Alan Corry," said First Selectman Peter Tesei. He said the town held two separate recruitment efforts which yielded a total of 18 applicants.

"We are plase to have the opportunity to determine that she is the best suited for the position," Tesei said during a 15-minute special Board of Selectmen's meeting Thursday afternoon.

"Rita has a good understanding of what we expect of one another," said Selectman Dave Theis.

Selectman Drew Marzullo added, "Her resume is impressive."

Azrelyant, who will become Greenwich's Parking Director on July 14, has been the assistant to the village manager for the village of Scarsdale, NY where she manages parking adminstration — including budgeting, staffing, purchasing and inventory control, and implementing parking regulations.

A graduate of the State University of Albany and earning a master's of public administration from the Nelson A. Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, Azrelyant was selected by the town's search team comprised of town Administrator John Crary, Human Resources Director Mary Pepe, Department of Public Works Superintendent Amy Siebert, police Capt. Mark Kordick and Tesei.

Following the selectmen's vote, Azrelyant said, "I thank you for inviting me (to be a part of the team) ..." Before meeting her new staff, Azrelyant also said she plans to focus on finding alternative modes of parking for motorcycles and bicycles — "we have limited space available."

Azrelyant will begin July 14 and will be paid $105,000.
