CT High Speed Rail Proposal Would Include Long Island Tunnel

The proposal by designers at the University of Pennsylvania would cost $100 billion for new service between Washington D.C., and Boston.

A preliminary proposal for a new rail line between Washington D.C., and Boston would include an 18-mile long tunnel that would run between Long Island and Connecticut under Long Island Sound.

According to a report in the Hartford Courant today, the high speed rail proposal by the University of Pennsylvania's School of Design would see the rail line emerge in Milford from beneath the Sound and run through the middle of Connecticut. The trains would run on new tracks that would have to be built alongside Interstate 84.

The proposal, first developed in 2010 by the university's design studio, is separate from that would also cut through the middle of Connecticut and carry passengers to Boston.

They are both part of an overall effort that has taken shape since President Barack Obama took office to improve rail service in the so-called Northeast "mega-region," and get more high speed trains in service between Washington and Boston.

Seems to me you are missing the most obvious which is shown in the photo used at the top ofRead More Greenwich Patch pages - Grass Island Marina/Park is directly across the waterway. You won't be able to see much of the stage front but you can certainly enjoy the tunes.
