Incumbent State Sen. Scott Frantz Defeats 2 Challengers [UPDATED] [VIDEO]

Incumbent state Sen. L. Scott Frantz handily defeated his Democratic challenger Daniel Dauplaise, a Stamford Democrat.

According to the Voters of Registrars, Frantz received 13,225 votes; Dauplaise: 6,750, and Green Party candidate Remy Chevalier, 295.

In introducing Frantz, Greenwich Republican Town Committee Chair Jim Campbell declared, "Greenwich is Scott Frantz territory." 

Frantz told the crowd of about 200 gathered at the St. Lawrence Club in Cos Cob that legislators need to focus on the economy which he described as being a 'sinkhole.' (Please see video.)

Just as the polls were closing, Frantz said he was "cautiously optimistic" about the outcome of his race as well as the presidential race. A major supporter of Republican Mitt Romney, Frantz predicted it would be a close race between Romney and incumbent Barack Obama. He spent most of the day traveling to poll stations in his district—Greenwich, Stamford and New Canaan.

"I like to think about politics in a bottom-up way," Daniel Duplaise said Tuesday night at Downtown Stamford's The Palms for a Democratic Election Day party.

"Start at the bottom and build up. I'd like to say thank you to the contributions of organized labor. They are our bedrock," he said. "Next year, we will have a Democratic mayor."

Duplaise, while conceding, was the one to announce Jim Himes had won the race for U.S. Congressman against Steve Obsitnik.

Dauplaise lost by approximately 7,000 votes in Greenwich, enough to offset any gains in Stamford.

Republican incumbent in the 36th state Senate District, L. Scott Frantz, has two challengers seeking to wrest the seat he's held for two terms.

Democrat Daniel Dauplaise of Stamford and Green Party candidate Remy Chevalier of Weston are challenging him for the seat that includes Greenwich, Stamford and New Canaan.

Before he was elected in 2008, Frantz served on the Connecticut Development Authority, the Bradley International Airport Board of Directors and the Connecticut Brownfields Redevelopment Authority. He is a graduate of Princeton University and he earned his MBA from Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business.

Dauplaise is a consultant for the Greenwich Education Group and executive vice president and chief of Stamford operations for the Fairfield County Young Democrats, and a member of the Stamford Democratic Town Committee. He is a 2007 graduate of Cornell University and a volunteer firefighter in Stamford.

however, he was the Connecticut Green Party candidate for the 26th District State Senatorial Representative seat in 2004. Among his positions, Chevalier supports the grandfather clause, so residents over 65 who own their homes would no longer have to pay taxes on them.
