Letter: Kudos to Camillo, Kaliko on Law Protecting Fire Police

To the Editor:

I wish to congratulate Representative Fred Camillo and the lobbying effort of Cos Cob Fire Police Patrol Board member Joe Kaliko on their efforts regarding the passage of House Bill No. 6033, an act that encompasses new regulations concerning distracted driving. Specifically, there is a provision in the bill that makes ignoring the orders of Fire Police an infraction, which will be a huge boost to our town's dedicated volunteers. I agree with Representative Camillo when he says "this is a first good step" and that these very "skilled and dedicated" citizens protect the protectors. The Fire Police cadre often goes unrecognized, but Greenwich is lucky to have them.

Now armed with legislation designed to keep them safe, Greenwich Fire Police personnel will continue to be an ever-present entity at fires, traffic incidents, and natural disasters. Kudos to Governor Malloy, our state delegation and first responders for making this happen.
