Glenville Post Office Must Relocate

The Glenville post office is losing its lease. Where would you like to see it relocate?

'Hey there Mister Postman, do you have a letter for me?'

Well, if the postman has a letter for you in the Glenville neighborhood of Greenwich, who knows what could happen.

It seems the landlord of the Glenville Station of the U.S. Postal Service at 25 Glen Ridge St. in the Glenville neighborhood of Greenwich has decided not to renew the lease for free-standing red brick building that's part of the shopping complex where Stop & Shop and Chase Bank have outposts.

So, according to postal and town officials, come October, that postal facility will have to move.

The question is where and that's where the Postal Service needs help.

The United States Postal Service (“Postal Service”) is proposing to relocate the Glenville Station Post Office, presently located at 25 Glen Ridge Road, to a yet-to-be determined new location.

In a statement, the Postal Service said, "It's been decades since the Postal Service began business at the 25 Glen Ridge Rd. ... regrettably, our landlord has informed us that it has other plans for the building. While we continue to discuss options, we must prepare for the potential of relocation."

To that end, Postal Service representatives are planning to make a presentation to the Board of Selectmen at its upcoming May 22 meeting at 10 a.m. in the Meeting Room of Greenwich Town Hall.

In the statement, the Postal Service said it "is proposing to relocate the Post Office to a yet-to-be determined new location within the same zip code area (06831). Ideally, the new location will comprise roughly 1,000 square feet of space which will be modified for Postal Service use."

First Selectman Peter Tesei said Thursday that there are limited choices for relocation but one possibility is the former location of Greenwich Hardware at the corner of Riversville Road, next door to Finch's Drug store.

According to the postal service, it will accept written comments on the relocation proposal until June 21.

Comments should reference this post office by name and be sent to:
Joseph J. Mulvey
U. S. Postal Service
2 Congress Street, Room 8
Milford, MA 01757-9998

It is not necessary to attend the public meeting in order to comment or make a location suggestion.

If you have suggestions of where the Glenville station could relocated, let us know in the comments section.
