On the Market: Director Ron Howard's Greenwich Estate
The Academy Award-winning director and his wife are selling their 32-acre Greenwich estate.
Panoramic lakeviews, an indoor swimming pool, a barn set on acres of verdant lawns where a menagerie of domestic and farm animals roam, and of course, a home theater.
Those are just a few of the amenities of the 32-acre plus estate that Academy Award-winning movie director Ron Howard and his author wife Cheryl have built over the years in the gated community of Conyers Farm, tucked in the northern corner of Greenwich, straddling the Armonk, NY border.
The couple, who owns homes in Manhattan, Los Angeles and Paris, have decided to put their Greenwich estate on the market — the asking price: $27.5 million.
According to a statement from Sotheby's International Realty Greenwich, Lyn Stevens, a Realtor with the firm, has been selected to co-market the estate. The other Realtor involved with selling the estate the Howards bought in 1991, is Tamar Lurie of Coldwell Banker.
According to Sotheby's, "Among the features are: a main residence offering more than 17,200 square-feet of living space, outdoor recreation areas, a working farm, a guest house, indoor sports complex, and an observatory.
Howard, a former child actor who starred in The Andy Griffith Show and Happy Days, has directed several hit films including Splash, Cocoon, Apollo 13, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, A Beautiful Mind, The Da Vinci Code and Rush.
"The Howards created their own private oasis with organic gardens, an indoor pool, barns, greenhouse, game rooms and the home theater. The property was designed for entertaining and family living, and has been the site of two weddings, numerous parties, family reunions and fundraisers," according to Sotheby's.
Sotheby's quoted Howard, “We moved 3,000 miles away from the hub of Los Angeles, to raise our family here,” Howard said. “Whether we’re watching films in our theatre, walking the trails throughout our property, star gazing in our observatory, or just relaxing with friends and loved ones by the lake, Cheryl and I feel we’ve accomplished the goals we set when we began work on this place. Our children are grown, so it’s time to move on, but the memories of this very special place will never leave us.”

The property also includes a domed observatory on a ridge with a professional-grade Meade telescope for stargazing. Of his sprawling estate, Howard told the Wall Street Journal,"Everything kept evolving," We built it, and then we said 'how about this, how about that?'"
