88 Graduate Brunswick School [VIDEO]

110th commencement held at school's King Street campus.

Eighty-eight young men graduated from the Brunswick School Wednesday during institution's 110th commencement ceremony.

With the threat of rain, the ceremony was inside the gymnasium of the all-boys King Street campus. It was standing room only as several hundred friends, family and teachers filled the facility.

In opening the ceremony, Headmaster Thomas Philip noted that among the faculty attending was Lt. Col. Robert Benjamin who returned Wednesday from a year-long tour of duty in Afghanistan in time for the graduation.

"Getting here (graduation) is no easy task," Philip said. Philip said the class of 2012 made numerous contributions to the school and he already experiencing separation anxiety. "There is so much fulfillment. I am thinking about tomorrow when they won't be here in our classrooms, on our athletic fields and on our stages."

Robert Fernandez, selected by his classmates to be the "Ivy" speaker, recalled the years the young men have spent together endeavoring through academics, athletics, class trips and community service even though at times there was unhappiness. He quoted HG Wells, "Knowledge is only gained through suffering." (Please see video of Fernandez' speech.)
