Digital Learning Chief Tapped by Greenwich Public Schools

As Greenwich schools move closer to implementing digital learning curriculums, the district has hired Stamford Public School's chief information officer to lead that effort.

As Greenwich Public Schools move closer to integrating digital learning into its curriculums, the school district has hired a director of digital learning and technology to lead the effort.

Phillip Dunn was appointed Aug. 1 as the digital learning director by school Superintendent William McKersie. For the last two years, Dunn was the chief information officer for Stamford Public Schools.

In a statement, McKersie said, "Mr. Dunn has the rare skill set required to lead our Digital Learning Initiative. As a former mathematics teacher, Mr. Dunn has proven instructional expertise and has taught a wide range of students. He has proven in his previous work ... that his skill set produces top results for students and educators.

McKersie added, "I am confident that Mr. Dunn brings the vision and expertise necessary to ensure that the GPS becomes a pace setting district in digital teaching and learning—with accelerated student outcomes as the ultimate measure."

The newly-created director's post will work with the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Learning and will be responsible for the direction, definition and management of all digital and learning information, technology services throughout the school district and its offices. The director will establish strategic plans and standards for digital learning and information services that ensure program and service levels meet or exceed national and state standards for best practice.

Before becoming the chief information officer for Stamford public schools, Dunn worked as the Director of Strategic Analysis for the New York City Board of Education for four years. He began his education career teaching middle school mathematics for New  York City Public Schools.

Dunn received a bachelor's degree in applied mathematics and statistics from Cornell University; a master's degree in quantitative methodology from Columbia University, and a law degree from Seton Hall University.
