Parent Opposes Consideration To Relocate 5th Grade From New Lebanon School

To the Editor:

As a parent of two New Lebanon School students, I am disappointed by the possibility that our Fifth Grade students may be relocated to Western Middle School for the upcoming school year, due to lack of space atNew Lebanon.

This option was discussed by Superintendent of Schools Dr. McKersie at a meeting held at New Lebanon on May 1st. The Superintendent’s office, the School District, and the Board of Education have been aware of the lack of space at New Lebanon for some time and have failed to address this issue in a timely and permanent manner.

The potential transfer of elementary school students to a middle school would be a shortsighted decision that will negatively impact New Lebanon and the affected students.

New Lebanon is facing an increasing enrollment right now and in the upcoming years. A permanent solution, specifically the construction of additional classroom space, should be immediately budgeted for and pursued.
