Daniel Baker Earns Graduate Degree at Emporia State University

Daniel Baker of Greenwich was among more than 300 candidates for graduate degrees during commencement ceremonies May 14 at Emporia State University. Baker earned a master's degree in educational administration.

Greenwich resident Jessica Kristof received a Master of Science degree in Community Counseling at the May 20 commencement of Western Connecticut State University in Danbury.

Kalmia Cochran named to Dean's List at Elmira College

Junior Kalmia Cochran of Greenwich, has been named to the Dean's List of Academic Achievement for the Winter 2011 term. Kalmia is majoring in Adolescence Education: Social Studies and History and is the daughter of Karen and Rick Cochran. The Dean's List recognizes students that have a grade point average of 3.6 or higher.

 GA students finalists in CT Young Writers Competition

Three Greenwich Academy students have been named finalists in the 14th annual of the Connecticut Young Writers Competition. The finalists will vie for the chance to be published in Connecticut Review, the literary journal of the Connecticut State University System, as well as monetary awards from the Connecticut Young Writers Trust.

The statewide winners will be announced on June 11 at an awards ceremony at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU). There were 806 entries received.

The literary awards competition, for youngsters ages 13 to 18, is a project of the Connecticut State University System and the Connecticut Young Writers Trust, with the support of the family trust of Glastonbury business consultant Matt Daly. It is designed to encourage young writers and poets throughout Connecticut. Entrants are nominated by a teacher in a public or private school, and home school entries are also accepted.

State champions in prose and poetry will each receive $1,000 from the Connecticut Young Writers Trust. Two runners-up in each category will receive $500.

Poetry finalists, the title of their work, and teacher are:

* Julia DeAngleo, ‘Me In 40 Years,’ Greenwich Academy, Jeff Schwartz

* Katie O’Neill, ‘Iconoclast,’ Greenwich Academy, Jeffrey Schwartz

* Kristen Houston, ‘Body Language,’ Greenwich Academy, Melissa Anderson.

Students Earn Dean's List Status at Washington and Lee University

The following Washington and Lee students of Greenwich have earned dean's list status for the recently ended winter term.

Senior Whitney Clark and Junior Christina Lawrence each earned a grade-average of at least 3.4 on a 4.0 scale.

Greenwich Academy RoboElite Team Wins Teamwork Trophy in St. Louis

Team GA traveled to St. Louis for the FLL competition (First Lego League) to compete with other robotics teams from around the country and the world. There were various teams from around the world in the America's Convention Center and Edwards Dome for the First Lego League event - 82 teams from the U.S. and 29 other countries. There were more than 20,000 students in attendance, including two high school level teams.  

GA girls and their coaches Gail Sestito and Doug Rendell had a few long days of heady competition balanced by a hearty dose of camaraderie and spirit as the girls made friends from all over the world. They won 2nd place for Teamwork.

Team members are: Sophie Hadjipateras, Charlotte Warne, Alexa Murray, Margot Shang, Claire Holtz, Rachael Ragen, Erika Kraus, Maxx Grossman, and Jadesola Ariyibi.

Resident graduates Quinnipiac University who received their degrees during the 80th undergraduate commencement on May 22:

Tracy Lynn Annunziato of Greenwich, Bachelor of Science in marketing.

Mallory Fraser Dixon of Riverside, Bachelor of Arts in public relations,

Lauren Amanda Levy of Riverside, Bachelor of Arts in English.

Megan Feda graduates from Fisher College

Megan Feda of Greenwich graduated from Fisher College during the commencement exercises held May 14 at the Park Plaza hotel in Boston, MA. She received an Associate of Science.
