Western MS Assistant Principal is Appointed

Greenwich High School Assistant Dean Thomas Healy is named assistant principal at Western Middle School.


Thomas C. Healy, assistant dean of student life for Clark House and a social studies teacher at Greenwich High School, has been named assistant principal for Western Middle School.

The appointment, effective July 15, was announced Friday by Superintendent of Schools William S. McKersie.

In a statement, McKersie said, "Mr. Healy’s teaching and administration experience, his knowledge of Greenwich, and his strong leadership skills make him the ideal choice for Western Middle School. I am especially pleased by his dedication to help Western's staff, students and parents come together and push for outstanding results. Mr. Healy will be a great addition to Mr. Gordon Beinstein's leadership team."

Western Middle School Principal Gordon Beinstein said in the statement, “What really struck me about Mr. Healy was his focus on the needs of the children as the driving force in everything he does.” Bernstein added, “This was further reinforced in conversations with his references, as each one spoke about his passion for the students and their individual needs. I am excited to have Mr. Healy on board. He will be a real asset to the Western community."

Healy has been with the Greenwich Public Schools at Greenwich High School since 2000. He was an instructional aide before becoming a social studies teacher in 2004. In 2011, he was named assistant dean of student life for Clark House at GHS. Healy also held additional leadership roles as House Senior Teacher and Stand By Me Coordinator.

Healy earned a bachelor of science in anthropology from James Madison University in 2000; a master of arts in teaching, secondary education from Sacred Heart University in 2004, and administrators certification through the University of Connecticut’s Neag School of Education Graduate Program in 2011. He also has been trained as a TEAM mentor in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, and in databased decision making at Harvard Graduate School of Education’s DataWise Conference.
