Greenwich Boys Hockey Beats Westhill

Luke Finneran scored two goals as the boys hockey team defeated Westhill 4-1 Wednesday at the Terry Conners Rink for its first win of the season.
The Cardinals, who were outscored 11-1 in their first two games against West Haven and Notre Dame of West Haven, improved to 1-2.

Westhill slipped to 0-2.
Greenwich nursed a 2-1 lead before putting away the game with a pair of goals in the final two minutes.

After a scoreless first period, Greenwich's Mark Schmeiler opened the scoring with just over five minutes remaining in the second. Finneran tallied his first to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead with seven minutes remaining in the third.
Westhill's Luke Znosko halved the deficit a minute later, but Greenwich's Brett Backman restored the two-goal margin with 1:31 remaining before Finneran completed the scoring in the final minute.

Army freshman swimmer Michael Dustin, a former standout at Greenwich High School. recently broke a 22-year school record in the 50-yard freestyle earlier this month at the Zippy Invitational at the University of Akron.
Dustin posted a record-breaking time of 20.97 for the Black Knights A two-time Connecticut high school state champio in the 100-butterfly, he has competed in that event and the 50-yard freestyle at Army. Dustin was name all-FCIAC in all four years at Greenwich.
