Greenwich HS Girls Hockey Wins 'Hand'-ily

Hannah Jeffrey recorded a hat trick Thursday as the Greenwich High School girls hockey team defeated Hand 5-1 at the Dorothy Hamill Rink.
Jeffrey also had two assists, giving her 54 points, which broke her previous school record of 50 points in a season. She also holds Greenwich's career mark for points with 186 and went over the century mark in career goals with 102.
Meghan Spezzano scored twice for the Cardinals, who built a 4-0 lead after the first period.

Dart Freccia made 11 saves for Greenwich, giving up the only goal in the third period to Emma DePierro.
Greenwich, which improved to 12-6-1, is the No. 3 seed for the FCIAC playoffs and will face No. 2 seed Ridgefield in the semifinals on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Darien Ice Rink.

Greenwich's Abby Markowitz is the 1,000-meter run in Saturday's state Open indoor track championship at the Floyd Little Athletic Center after finishing first in the Class LL meet earlier this week with a time of 2:58.39.
On the boys side, Greenwich's Marcus Motill is seeded first in the 300-meter dash after winning the race in the Class LL event in 35.68. Motill also is seeded second in the 600-meter run after posting a time of 1:23.12 against Class LL
competition.
Greenwich's Ryan Kelly is seeded fourth in the same event after a qualifying time of 1:23.89.
For the girls, Elizabeth Markowitz, Abby's younger sister, is the No. 4 seed in the 600-meter run (1:38.66).
The Greenwich girls and boys each finished second in the Class championships. The girls finished behind Glastonbury and the boys were in back of Staples.
