Greenwich advanced to Saturday's final (Fairfield Ludlowe, 2 p.m) against No. 7 seed Fairfield Warde, which defeated No. 6 Wilton 1-0 in Thursday's first semifinal.

In the FCIAC girls volleyball quarterfinals, Greenwich squandered a two-game lead, falling to New Canaan, 17-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-22 and 16-14.

The Rams advanced to take on Darien in one semifinal at Fairfield Ludlowe on Friday (7 p.m.) while Ridgefield at Staples will clash in the first semifinal at 5 p.m. at Ludlowe

Following a short week, the Greenwich football team looks to improve to 7-1 on Saturday when the Cardinals host McMahon in a 2 p.m. start.

Greenwich is coming off a 41-7 win over Westhill in a game that was postponed to Monday following Saturday's snowstorm. Shane Nastahowski rushed for 106 yards and two TDs, raising his season total to 750 yards and 14 TDs.

Greenwich remains undefeated in the FCIAC along with New Canaan and Staples, but the Cardinals will need one of those teams to lose to qualify for the FCIAC championship Nov. 18 at Trumbull's McDougall Stadium.

Having beaten three winless teams in Bassick, Fairfield Ludlowe and Westhill, the Cardinals do not have enough bonus points to overtake the Rams and Wreckers if they win out.

McMahon continued its up-and-down season with a 14-13 loss at Ridgefield last week to fall to 3-4. The Senators have lost all four of their games by seven points or less.

The CIAC announced Thursday it has postponed the start of its state tournaments to allow  extra time for conferences to complete their own playoff tournaments.

State tournaments in soccer, field hockey, volleyball and swimming, scheduled to start on Monday, now will be begin Thursday. Pairings will be announced Wednesday.

Volleyball and field hockey state championship games now will take place Nov. 18-19. Girls and boys soccer championship games will be played the following weekend.
