Seamless Summer Food Program for Greenwich Students

The free summer breakfast and lunch program for students continues until mid-August.


It's not too late to sign up for the Greenwich Public Schools Seamless Summer Food Program that provides free breakfast and lunch to school-aged children.

Through the federally funded  program, nutritious meals are provided to all children 18 years of age and under. The meals are free of charge and are available at Hamilton Avenue School, 184 Hamilton Ave.

The program continues through Aug. 12. Breakfast will be served weekdays from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Lunch is served weekdays from 1 to 1:45 p.m.

Schools spokesman Kim Eves said, "It is not too late to take advantage of the program. Those interested need only show up on the designated dates-times."

The program is averaging about 45 breakfasts and 145 lunches per day, according to Eves. "Of those numbers, the community represents about one breakfast per day and 20 lunches, the rest are our Summer School students."

According to the Connecticut State Department of Education, “The Seamless Summer Food Program (SSFP) combines features of National School Lunch Program (NSLP), School Breakfast Program (SBP) and Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). ... making it easier for schools to feed children from low- income areas during the traditional summer vacation periods.”
