Public Access TV Producer: "Neighbors"

I have a confession to make, and I feel I can write it on this blog because probably only the Editor will read it and she won’t tell anyone. Don’t judge me, because it doesn’t change who I am or what I’m about, which is producing the number one half-hour series on public access Cablevision, Comcast and Verizon show that teaches the basics of Chess through music movement and song – please just don’t judge me after you read my admission. Now I know that there are many African Americans reading my blog (wishful thinking) and what I will soon write may be offensive to them – give a sistah I break, and don’t judge me. For sure there’s a multi-cultural element out there that will, if they read my blog, stop. All I can do is apologize in advance and ask that you not judge me.

I love the men and women of the Town of GREENWICH PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENT! I love um, love um, love um, yes I do. Might as well get it all out, I pray for them, yes I do that too. Just remember that confession is good for the soul. All comments are welcomed as a wonderful surprise. Now I know there are some officers who study Chess and act accordingly and then there are others, so I’m not saying all. And, they ain’t got to love me back, oh no I’m not writing that, 'cause I know for them there’s a fine line between crime and punishment which I try to stay away from. I’m talking about the officers who set an exemplary example of their job of community outreach and for NEIGHBORS that’s Sgt. Mark Zuccerella. Yes, the good does outweigh the bad for me in the scheme of law and order.

Back in 2010 I went to then-Police Chief David Ridberg with a dream to teach the basic of, and to promote the value of young people engaging in Chess on a new show. I told him I needed to film a section of complex for the show's opening. He referred me to Sgt. Mark Zuccerella. The Chief 's support could have been just my good luck because he told me he had just started teaching his grandchild the basics of Chess. Look at the openings of NEIGHBORS you’ll see a clip of their youth holding pen.

Then when we switched over to HD in 2012, I called and Police Chief Jim Heavey and asked if I could film a section of the complex again and that I needed someone to interview about the department stance on Bullying within the community. He also to our mission seriously and referred me to the Sgt. Mark Zuccerella. I film an insightful and informative interviewed with Mark. It was in that interview that the Sgt. reminded me that we met back in 2010. I was a little embarrassed that I didn’t remember, but I think I had a good excuse, it’s in my genes – I was so scared being around all those cops that I just wanted to get in and out of there as soon as possible. So to be more exact I love our public safety officers from afar.

While I’m on the subject of public safety – the students who caused the Greenwich High School gun scare should be made to watch four hours of NEIGHBORS and enroll or participate in a Chess program, in addition to community service. This will help them to fully understand and never forget that we live in a society of consequences and actions.

I’ve been asked to film the Fun with Chess with Master Rich program at the Byram Shubert Library this Tuesday, April 16 at 1 p.m. I think to Miguel Colón, the Branch Manager it’s more about me being there to write about the crowd he hopes will come there. He also knows how happy and excited I get seeing all those young people thinking. So if you’re around please stop in there’ll be a Chessboard and a an eager mind waiting for you.
