My Favorite Artists on the Avenue

It's Time for Art to the Avenue. A Quick Stroll down the Avenue to Meet a Few Favorite Female Artists

I meet all my favorite friends on the Avenue during Art to the Avenue.  Some in person.  Some via their art.  I have already marked my map to make sure I see them all but especially my favorite female artists. The fun starts this Thursday, May 3 at 5:30 p.m.

I plan to start with a touch of the tropics and a sunny seaside at the top of the avenue at People’s United Bank at Pickwick Plaza where 25 unique colorful paintings on silk by Gay Morris are on display.  Morris is an Australian who grew up in Japan and Jamaica, West Indies, a background reflected in the exotic, luxurious yet delicate imagery.

Next a stop at Jewelers and a visit to Italy courtesy of Heidi Coutu. Coutu has just returned from teaching a weeklong painting workshop in Cortona, Italy. With a degree in Fine Art from Mount Holyoke College, Coutu currently instructs an evening atelier and painting class at Timothy Dwight College, Yale University. She has taught advanced painting at the Springfield Museum of Fine Art, Wisteria Hurst Museum, & La Casa des Artistes, Mexico. She is the co-creator and co-founder of Minds Island (now known as ArtID.com), an online destination that connects artists with patrons while providing business resources and tools for success.

Time for a little refreshment at and the wonderful small works of Carol Nipomnich Dixon. Dixon is best known for her color photography and small-scaled embroidered collages, which combined traditional and contemporary techniques, materials, and concepts influenced by a variety of the world's cultures. A resident of Old Greenwich, she is on the faculty of , where she chaired the History Department for 16 years and the Arts Department prior to that for five years.

And on down the avenue for some new favorites!
