5 Events for Your Greenwich Weekend Calendar

Greenwich Food + Wine Festival
Friday Night Grand Tasting at 6:30 p.m. The doors will open and the Festival’s Featured Chefs will serve a very special menu along with fines wines by The Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits, beers by Stella Artois, as well as creative cocktails. If you can't make it Friday, then there's Saturday with a Culinary Village & Southern Bash. There will be a BBQ Pit Masters competition, a burger bash, book signings and then at night, there's a concert with the Ian Murray Band and DISPATCH. It's all at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park on Arch Street.

'How I Became  Pirate'
The Greenwich Arts Council and the Downtown Cabaret Children's Theatre in Bridgeport, introduces a their cabaret-style theatrical productions for children and their families on Saturday, Oct. 5. The inaugural production will be How I Became a Pirate, specially adapted for the Council's performance space at 299 Greenwich Ave.

John Zumbo Scholarship Race
Family and friends of John Zumbo will be holding the annual benefit foot race to raise money for the John Zumbo Memorial Scholarship program they established in the memory of the 28-year-old Greenwich fitness guru who was killed in a car crash in 2008. Each year two Greenwich High School students are awarded scholarships. The race will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 6 on Woods Road in Bruce Park.

Fall Flea Market

The Greenwich Knights of Columbus will hold the fall edition of their annual Flea Market in the Island Beach parking lot on Arch Street, just off Exit 3 of I-95, on Sunday, Oct. 6. In addition to antiques, collectibles and the Knights' barbeque food, Greenwich Fire Department Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment & Retention Officer Brian Kelly will be recruiting for volunteer firefighters, fire police and administrative support members. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free and the market is on rain or shine.

Hounds on the Sound
Love to be outdoors with your pooch? Then head to Glen Island Park in New Rochelle on Sunday for the fifth annual Hounds on the Sound dog walk-a-thon and festival. Event co-chairwoman Dianne Heim said there will be about 45 vendors plus food sellers for the benefit of the New Rochelle Humane Society, Pet Rescue of Larchmont, and the Mount Vernon Animal Shelter.
